The way
Indochina people lives in their community has been very
simple. Most of the families are extended families, looked
after by their elders. Everyone shares, within the family
and between the families.
The aromatic village of Indochina
people where they produce aromatic product is the same, the
owner of the business is like the father who looks after his
family.
At Karmakamet, we started out within our family with
our old recipes brought from china, later when the product
has become well known because of its quality, we had to
expand the business through hiring our relative and
neighbors who live in our community.
By slowly expanding the
business in this way, each one of us are well trained and
because of our attitude of living and sharing, we share our
knowledge to keep Karmakamet its best quality.

|
There
are different kinds of people in Aromatic products
community:
The
owners of the business who can effort to have their children
send aboard e.g. Penang for the better education.
When their
sons and daughters are back to their homeland, they brought
back western culture which influence Penang at that time
with them, this can be notified by the way they dress, the
way they have their house and the interior done. Even
though, they were influenced by western culture, they still
keep the community’s simple way of living.
Other than that, there are trusted workers, usually close
relatives, working as clerk taking care of the money matter.
Most of the lower level
workers were sent to work with the community by their
parents who supplies raw materials such as herbs to the
community, hoping that their sons and daughters could learn
how to make the aromatic products. Then, there were love,
within the group of workers, between the workers and the
owner’s relatives. This is where our extended family begins. |

The
build that once was large enough for every one now too
small, and ready to be expanded. The different types of
architecture were added to the original building. The
details of each section defy the status of the family who
lives in. The floor of the owner room lined with the
colorful imported tiles in contrast with the floor of the
workers’ rooms that are lined with wood, or if they are a
bit luckier, instead of wood, it could be the polished
granite floor with blaze lining plus they could be gifted
with the old furniture from Shanghai that the owner does not
want anymore because he now likes the western influenced
furniture better.
All the old ceramic wares with the
colorful glaze also are given away to the workers; some of
them are still in set with the lids some of them the lids
were missing because there were always kids running around
in the family and break things. But, in the end, no matter
what type the room is, luxury or not luxury, all of the
rooms were build the best way they could be build. All the
furniture in all the rooms, expensive or not expensive, was
made with the best materials of each kind that could be
found, with the best quality of craftsmanship.
