The story of Kamalaya began in 1982, in the far jungles of the Himalayas, when Kamalaya founders John and Karina Stewart first met. The idea for Kamalaya was inspired by the 16 years John spent devoted to a life of service and spiritual studies in a Himalayan community and Karina’s 22 years of experience in the study and practice of diverse Asian healing and spiritual traditions, including her background as a doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

At Kamalaya Koh Samui, Thailand`s award-winning Wellness Sanctuary and Holistic Spa resort, you can experience a life-enriching healthy holiday. Our wellness programs offer solutions for detox, yoga, stress and burnout, fitness and weight control.

If you are looking for a more personalised wellness experience, our team of international naturopaths can work with you to create your own health program from our extensive range of holistic medicine, spa and healing therapies.

Centred around a monk’s cave that once served Buddhist monks as a place of meditation and spiritual retreat, Kamalaya’s essence is expressed in its name, ‘Lotus (kamal) Realm (alaya)’, an ancient symbol for the growth and unfolding of the human spirit.

Koh Samui has long been favoured by Buddhist monks as a sanctuary for spiritual retreat. The island, they say, has a special energy that enriches and enlightens their spiritual path and helps them connect more profoundly with the universal energies.

Kamalaya’s facilities and accommodations encircle a centuries-old cave, once used by Buddhist monks as a place for meditation and spiritual retreat. The tradition of these monks continues at Kamalaya and adds an aura of spiritual and sacred energy to the physical beauty of the land.

The Monks’ Cave is always open, and guests are welcome to enter this sacred space for quiet contemplation and meditation. For Kamalaya hosts, the cave provides spiritual nourishment and a peaceful break to lighten and brighten the day.

At the heart of Kamalaya is a cave once inhabited and used by Buddhist monks as a place of meditation and spiritual retreat.

The foundation of the Kamalaya experience rests on three intertwining pillars, creating a platform from which you can reconnect with life’s potential:

The Place ‘Connect with nature, the elements and the universal energies’ – With lush, tropical vegetation, cascading streams and overlooking an idyllic lagoon and white sand beaches, Kamalaya’s spirit of place is an integral part of each guest’s experience.

At the heart of Kamalaya is a cave, once used by Buddhist monks as a place of meditative retreat.

The Holistic Wellness ‘Connect body, mind, heart and emotions’
 – Integrating holistic medicine and complementary therapies from Eastern and Western traditions, Kamalaya takes a balanced approach to optimal physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.

The Kamalaya wellness experience goes beyond treatments and therapies to include holistic fitness classes, delicious healthful cuisine, wellness programs, group retreats and opportunities to work with visiting international healers and teachers.

The People ‘Connect with a diversity of people, healers, teachers and guests’ – Kamalaya was created as an inspiring place to regain a sense of community and belonging through connections with Kamalaya hosts, wellness specialists and visiting healers as well as the group dynamic of retreats, events and interations with other guests.

At Kamalaya, communication with each guest is an integral element of your visit to ensure your stay fulfills your aspirations is every way.

Koh Samui, also known as ‘the island of the coconuts,’ is the third largest Thai island, after Phuket and Koh Chang. With jungle covered hills and palm fringed bays, Koh Samui is 22 km at its widest point and 13 km in length, located 700 south of Bangkok. Neighboring islands include Koh Tao, (one of the top diving islands in Asia), Koh Phangan, Angthong National Marine Park, Koh Tan and beautiful Koh Nang Yuan.

A favorite holiday destination for travelers worldwide, Koh Samui offers diving, golf, waterfalls, trekking, beautiful beaches, health retreats, exotic spas and fine dining.
